RCMA Academies Excel in Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST)

A grade opt

IMMOKALEE, FL – July 25, 2024 – RCMA (Redlands Christian Migrant Association), Florida’s largest provider of child education, celebrates the outstanding performance of its dual language academies in the 2023-2024 Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) evaluations.

RCMA’s Immokalee Community Academy (ICA) achieved a prestigious A grade on the FAST assessment, while Wimauma Community Academy (WCA) earned a very high B grade. These impressive results reflect the hard work and dedication of the teachers, staff, and students at these academies.

The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) is a comprehensive, statewide assessment program designed to measure student progress and proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. The assessment provides valuable insights into student learning and helps educators tailor instruction to meet individual needs.

Isabel Garcia, Executive Director of RCMA, expressed her gratitude and pride in the accomplishments of the academies:

“We are incredibly proud of our students, teachers, and staff at Immokalee Community Academy and Wimauma Community Academy,” she said. “Their commitment to excellence and tireless dedication have led to these outstanding results. Achieving an A grade at ICA and a high B grade at WCA is a testament to their hard work, resilience, and the supportive learning environment we strive to create at RCMA.

“We also want to acknowledge the efforts of our Mulberry Community Academy, which opened last year and did not participate in this year’s assessment due to having only kindergarten and first-grade students. We look forward to their future successes as they grow.”

RCMA operates more than 50 child development centers across the state of Florida and three academies, providing high-quality educational opportunities from infancy through 8th grade. The organization’s holistic approach not only focuses on academic achievement but also on supporting the families of their students, ensuring a comprehensive and nurturing educational experience.

Congrats!

RCMA Banner Bachelors Graduates

At RCMA, we know the importance of education and the doors that it can open. We know that doors will be opening for Kyana Rosembert and Cristal Saucedo, two of our team members from RCMA’s South Dade CDC. They both recently graduated from Florida International University with bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood Education. They have been working hard over the last couple of years to accomplish this. Congratulations ladies, you did it! We are so proud of you!

Teachers Train To Be Even Better

We already know we’ve got the best teaching staff ever, but they strive to be even better! To get ready for the new school year, some of our teachers recently attended Get Your Teach On, a teacher’s professional development conference held annually in Orlando. This was a chance for the teachers to do some learning, growing, and team-building. We’re diving deep into strategies to enhance literacy, boost student engagement, and drive student success and accountability on campus. We are so grateful for the commitment and passion our teachers have. This is going to be an amazing school year!

Thank You St. Luke’s!

The entire RCMA family would like to thank St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at Windermere in Orlando for their generous $14,500 grant. The grant marks the first such funding RCMA has received from St. Luke’s, demonstrating the church’s commitment to supporting RCMA’s mission and the families it serves. The gift will support the construction of our new state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable community academy in Mulberry, Florida, dedicated to serving grades K-8 with a dual-language curriculum. We are so grateful for your generosity!

Back to School

All across the state, the RCMA Child Development Centers and Charter Academies kicked off the new year with lots of excitement and hope. Our students brought their A-game, ready to face the many challenges a new school year can bring. And, for the first time ever, our newest academy, Mulberry Community Academy added second grade to its campus. We welcome back all of our returning students, and a warm welcome to our new students as well. You’re going to love it at RCMA! Also, a big thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and amazing community members for making the first day a great one. Together, we’re unstoppable!

Parents Learn Financial Literacy

Financial literacy opt

RCMA does a great job in educating children and getting them ready for their future, but we also offer programs for the parents too! Recently, we had an amazing turnout of parents at our Wimauma Community Academy for the annual Financial Literacy Program presentation. Our friends at United Way Suncoast worked to help our parents get on a path toward financial empowerment and economic mobility. They gave information about access to services, job training, job coaching, credit counseling, and money management programs. We all know the importance of having this kind of information for our everyday life. We’re glad so many of our parents attended, and a BIG thanks to United Way for their help.

RCMA is dedicated to helping children from low-income families succeed academically and in life. With the new school year approaching, we need your support to help equip our classrooms with the necessary supplies and resources. Your gift, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in creating engaging and well-prepared learning environments for our students. Please consider making a donation today to help us ensure every child has the tools they need to thrive. Thank you for your generosity! Donate now!

Summer Programs Continue to Challenge Young Minds

summer programs 4

For many schools, summertime can present a specific learning challenge called the “summer slide,” a term used in education to describe the learning loss that students can experience when they are out of school for the summer. Avoiding the “summer slide” is crucial for maintaining academic progress, and RCMA is committed to keep young minds engaged and challenged all summer long. From learning to swim and tying their shoes to honing their reading and math skills, our students have made fantastic progress building upon the skills acquired during the school year. Many of the outdoor adventures and active explorations have filled their days with joy and discovery. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements!
