PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Chief Development Officer is a senior leadership role responsible for driving RCMA’s fundraising strategy, leading the development team, and fostering key relationships with donors, board members, and stakeholders. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Communications and Marketing, and the Associate Executive Director of Business and Finance to develop and implement statewide strategies for donor cultivation, major gifts, grants, and capital campaigns to meet and exceed the organization’s financial goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:
- Team Leadership & Budget Management
- Supervises and mentors a statewide development team, ensuring alignment with annual fundraising goals. Manages and meets revenue expectations of $10m per year.
- Leads the development budget, and establishes and drives performance metrics to meet revenue targets.
- Develops and frequently reviews the organization’s statewide development plan.
- Consistently monitors the organization’s strategic plan to ensure development goals are in line with agency objectives.
- Capital Campaigns & Strategic Planning
- Oversees capital campaign feasibility studies and planning efforts, creating clear strategies for execution.
- Coordinates campaign committee, team members, volunteers, and resources to ensure successful implementation.
- Statewide Development Strategy
- Creates, implements, and regularly evaluates a comprehensive statewide fundraising plan.
- Collaborates with leadership and staff to assess progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Donor Relations & Stewardship
- Manages a portfolio of 50-100 principal donors, ensuring effective cultivation and stewardship.
- Develops personalized engagement strategies for donors, board members, and stakeholders through an annual stewardship plan that is reviewed quarterly.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Partners with the Executive Director, Development and Community Relations team, and Communications teams to ensure unified messaging and a cohesive development strategy across all departments.
- Work with the Grants Foundation Manager to create and execute an annual grants strategy.
- Bi-weekly meetings with direct reports, regular DCR check-in meetings, and attendance at leadership and Board meetings.
- Data Management & Reporting
- Develops and maintains a dashboard to track key fundraising metrics and donor engagement data for each team member.
- Uses insights and feedback to refine strategies and maximize fundraising outcomes.
- Brand Identity & Community Relations
- Plays an active role in strengthening RCMA’s brand identity and ensuring consistent messaging.
- Builds and maintains relationships with key community stakeholders, volunteers, and partners statewide.
- Schedules regular meetings with the Director of Communications and Media.
- Staff Development & Performance Management
- Leads and mentors development team members, providing performance feedback and professional support.
- Fosters a culture of innovation, accountability, and results-driven collaboration.
- Works directly with Regional Development Officers to review donor portfolios on a quarterly basis.
- Collaboration with Finance & Operations
- Works closely with RCMA’s finance team to ensure proper donor management and financial integrity, especially as it relates to grants management and reporting.
- Supports the development of systems and structures for efficient collaboration and information flow within the organization.
- Other Duties
- Leads regular meetings with the Executive Director and key leadership to assess progress and strategy.
- Assists in the planning and execution of special events and other duties as assigned.

The individual must meet age, medical, moral character, and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Master’s degree and professional certification (CFRE) are a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in managing teams and achieving revenue targets. Personal connections to principal-level donors are a plus.
