MISSION:

RCMA Mulberry Community Academy, in Polk County, is seeking an energetic and passionate ThirdGrade Teacher.

RCMA Mulberry Community Academy is dedicated to opening doors of opportunity for the children of Florida’s farmworkers and agricultural migrants. Most students in our small, community-oriented classes are English Language Learners of Central American heritage with big dreams of making their mark. Our teachers often comment on how privileged they feel to work with young people who so greatly appreciate learning! In order to best serve our student population, the school is a dual language program school (50:50, English/Spanish), with a one-way immersion model. Our successful Charter School is located in Mulberry, Florida.

Redlands Christian Migrant Association (RCMA) is a non-profit corporation serving Florida agriculture workers and their children for more than fifty years. RCMA is recognized as a “School of Hope operator” by the State Board of Education, a prestigious designation for non-profit, charter school operators.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Charter Academy Principal function as a team to carry out teaching assignments. Works as a team to implement approved Charter Academy Educational program components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:

  1. Safeguards the health and safety of all students.
  2. Assists students to achieve academically in the areas of language, literacy, math, social studies, science, arts, and physical development through classroom instruction utilizing approved curricula and strategies.
  3. Assists students in developing cognitive, social, emotional, and psychomotor skills appropriate to age, grade, and ability through daily instruction.
  4. Establishes rapport with students and parents. Communicates student progress effectively with parents to as to facilitate meaningful two-way communication.
  5. Establishes classroom routines and procedures. Formulates student behavior standards in the classroom, identifies causes of inappropriate behavior, and works to correct it utilizing available resources.
  6. Selects, develops, plans, implements, and evaluates learning activities, daily lessons, and student performance. Maintains class records and individual progress of each student
  7. Assists in assessing student entry-level, develop and implement Student Achievement Plans, including short and long-term goals.
  8. Works as a team to develop curricula, learning and teaching strategies, discipline policy, and resource identification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: In the absence of the Charter Academy Principal, teachers may be assigned to supervise the day-to-day operations of the academy for short periods of time to a maximum of two to three days.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgement and discretion under the general supervision of the Charter Academy Principal. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral character, and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. Florida Statute 231.02 requires all Charter School employees to be fingerprinted. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Must possess a temporary Teacher’s Certificate or be Certified as required by Chapter 231.02 Florida Statutes. One to three years of teaching experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards, as well as children and parents.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solve problems in a creative manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hand and finger coordination to write and type. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the vision necessary to obtain a Florida driver’s license.

OTHER: Able to work flexible hours, occasional evenings, and varying daytime shifts during weekdays. Some weekend work is required.
