WIMAUMA (June 29, 2022) – Mosaic has pledged $150,000 over three years to RCMA, Florida’s largest nonprofit provider of early childhood education and a nationally recognized charter school operator.
Mosaic donated $50,000 on June 20 to help RCMA complete the sports pavilion at its Wimauma Community Academy. The K-8 school serves 345 children of rural, low-income families with a bilingual, bi-cultural curriculum. The 52’ x 90’ sports court used for physical education classes and afterschool sports programs was completed on March 3, 2021. RCMA is now raising funds for a steel protective cover estimated at $323,000.
In addition, Mosaic issued a $100,000 challenge grant to help RCMA raise funds for its new Mulberry Community Academy. The academy will open for the 2023-2024 school year with temporary classrooms. Construction for the K-8 school serving 360 students is expected to be completed by fall 2025. The challenge grant period will run until June of 2024, with Mosaic matching up to $100,000 donated by other supporters.
“As a major employer in Florida’s agriculture industry, Mosaic is an important business to the migrant families that RCMA supports,” says Isabel Garcia, executive director of RCMA. “We appreciate Mosaic’s commitment to helping children of rural, low-income families achieve academic parity. Their leadership gift will inspire other businesses and individuals to make the same commitment.”
“RCMA has a rich history in Florida with 55 years of experience providing quality childcare and education to the children of farmworkers while also providing support services to their families,” says Sarah Fedorchuk, Vice President Government and Public Affairs North America at Mosaic. “As RCMA seeks to expand its services in Wimauma and Mulberry, Mosaic is proud to provide resources to ensure its growth and sustainability in our region.”
