Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Puerto Rico 3rd grade kids circle

More than half of our 5,500 children have Hispanic ancestry, and we celebrate their traditions throughout Hispanic Heritage Month every year. Through their research, students make drawings, wear fashions, eat foods and sing songs related to the culture of the countries they study.

At our Immokalee Community Academy, each grade shared their work as students and staff walked throughout the school to see each table.

Kindergarten students learned about Argentina and made a small display that featured sample cuisine that all students wished they could sample!

Some 1st graders dressed in Peruvian-style clothing and hats. They welcomed guests with a sing-song greeting viewable in the slideshow below.

The 3rd graders made a short video in which several of them act as narrators, sharing what they learned about Puerto Rico’s history, geography and culture. Their display included a Roberto Clemente jersey in remembrance of the famous baseball player.

Fashion was just one way the 4th grade students showcased all that Guatemala has to offer.

The very artistic 5th graders represented Colombia in beautiful drawings and crafts they made.

Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades welcome guests with enthusiastic singing and performance hand gestures.

Even our front office staff participated, setting up information about Mexico.

We hope you enjoy the photos in this slideshow as much as the students enjoyed celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
