Music Teacher (K-5) – Charter Academy

MISSION:

RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, a “B” rated Title I Charter School in Hillsborough County, is seeking an energetic, creative, and passionate Music Teacher (K-5) for the upcoming school year.

RCMA Wimauma Community Academy, serving the area for more than twenty years, is dedicated to opening doors of opportunity for the children of Florida’s farmworkers and agricultural migrants. Most students in our small, community-oriented classes are English Language Learners of Central American heritage with big dreams of making their mark. Our teachers often comment on how privileged they feel to work with young people who so greatly appreciate learning! In order to best serve our student population, the school is a dual language program school (50:50, English/Spanish), with a one-way immersion model.

Our successful K-8 Charter School is located in Wimauma, Florida. Our school serves approximately 340 children, with two homerooms per grade level from K-8; our small size allows us to serve our students and their families on a personal level.

Redlands Christian Migrant Association, RCMA, is a non-profit corporation serving Florida agriculture workers and their children for more than fifty years. RCMA is recognized as a “Schools of Hope operator” by the State Board of Education, a prestigious designation for non-profit, charter school operators.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Music Teacher will be responsible for teaching six classes per day, with a 50-minute planning period.  Wimauma Community Academy is a K-8 charter school, however, this position is to teach only kindergarten through fifth grade students. The Teacher will also be expected to lead students in performances for parents a minimum of two times per year.

  6. Belief in the power of collaboration within our campus community (i.e. colleagues, students, and their families), as well as with community partners.
  7. Collaboration with colleagues (teachers, teacher aides, and all staff members) is critical to the success of our community-based school.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold a valid FL Teaching Certificate or be eligible for one.
  • Applicants should be certified in Music K- 12.
  • Two or more years of previous teaching experience is preferred, with at least one year of teaching Music at the elementary level.

DESIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Bilingual candidates are preferred, as all of our K-5 students are part of a dual language program (English/Spanish).
