Bus Aide – Charter Academy

MISSION:

RCMA Mulberry Community Academy, a Title I Charter School in Polk County, is seeking an energetic and dependable Bus Aide!

Our expanding K-2 Charter School is located in Mulberry, Florida. Our school will serve approximately 120 children, our small size allows us to serve our students and their families on a personal level.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:  To escort students to and from the vehicle and manage their behavior during the ride.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the general supervision of the Bus Driver while transporting students. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral character, and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.

  1. Make the safety of the students your Number ONE Responsibility!
  2. Read and become familiar with program goals, objectives, and philosophy.
  3. Ride on bus/vehicle with students when they are being transported from home to school, and school to home.
  4. Keep students safe, comfortable, and occupied with songs/games while being transported.
  5. Know all safety procedures for vehicle/bus transportation, such as ensuring no student is left on the bus/vehicle, emergency evacuation of bus or assigned vehicle, and rules for receiving and returning children to parents.
  6. When a situation occurs, when the driver is unable to drive a bus that requires a driver to have a CDL, the Bus Aide must contact the school and wait for a qualified driver while caring for the children.
  7. Be responsible for keeping the inside of the vehicle/bus clean.
  8. Responsible for delivery of messages to the home as provided by the Teacher and/or School Director.
  9. Determine if a student is too ill to attend the school at the time he boards the vehicle/bus and return him to his parents without accepting him (Refer to RCMA Health Book).
  10. Keep the Daily Transportation Attendance Log.
  11. Participate in training and staff development activities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good driving record and must be at least 21 years of age to drive any vehicle for RCMA business.
  • Must be physically able to perform emergency evacuation from assigned vehicle.
  • Must have successfully completed First Aid and CPR training.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

NOTE:

  • To be able to assume driver responsibilities in the absence of the bus driver or during an emergency. A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with (P) passenger and (S) school bus endorsements, as a minimum, are required to assume driver responsibilities.
