PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Early Education Coach has knowledge and experience in child development and early childhood curriculum.  The skills and knowledge from the Early Ed. Coach are part of a regional leadership team to develop and manage centers and programs to fulfill the mission of RCMA.  The Early Education Coach provides coaching to teachers, using the Practice Based Coaching model as a professional development activity. Collaborative partnerships with teachers lead to shared goals and action planning, focused classroom observations, then to reflection and feedback.  The coach support teachers in their goal-setting and action planning through classroom observations and meetings with teachers. During data collection periods of time, coaches use CLASS, and PQA assessment tools to teach child interactions and program quality for teachers’ professional growth. The Early Education Coach will also provide leadership to the area/regional team to ensure compliance to include trainings and monitoring with the different funding sources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. 

Work as a part of a regional team to:

  1. Be a part of the coordinated approach to professional development for RCMA. Collect teacher and program assessment data as assigned, assuring that assessments are not done in classrooms where you will be coaching.  Organize and facilitate the annual professional Development Planning day for the assigned areas.  Use data for discussions to determine which teachers would need intensive coaching.  Coach-only teachers identified as needing intensive coaching.
  2. Be organized and model an openness to learning and taking risks. Foster an environment for teacher to feel comfortable trying new things, reflecting on their practice, and receiving feedback. Focus and celebrate on teachers’ strengths.
  3. Collaboratively with teachers identified as needing intensive coaching, complete an action plan, support teachers in prioritizing goals for improvement or refinement that are specific, observable, and can be completed within a specific amount of time.
  4. Observe teachers to focus on specific practices or child behaviors, related to the goal and action plan. Use support strategies (role modeling, providing cues, role-playing) with the agreement of the teachers during observations.
  5. During coaching meetings, use reflection and feedback about progress on implementation of teaching practices and strategies. Refine or expand implementation of teaching practices. Ask teachers questions to stimulate thinking and provide information to support teachers’ learning and goals.
  6. Enter data, analyze data and maintain coaching records in MyHeadStart and other ways as required to determine trends, strengths, and areas of opportunities connected to coaching results. Provide teacher and child reports to centers, area, and regional teams as necessary.
  7. Be a trainer of curriculum, child, and program assessment as assigned to pre-service, in-service days, etc. Create workshops based on teacher needs, using High Scope training practices.   Share with other coaches.  Post on the RCMA intranet for ECS/MTs to use.  Collect resources for teachers to use in their action steps toward meeting goals.  Work collaboratively with ECS and Center Coordinators on planning and scheduling training.
  8. Monitor early education services as part of an ongoing monitoring system. Analyze monitoring results, collaborate with the Area Coordinator and Regional Director, and determine actions for continuous quality improvements.  Use current systems to maintain data records and reports.
  9. Use the M38 monitoring form and ECE coach annual forecast to ensure monitoring compliance.  Monitor/Analyze/Agregate data using MyHeadStart, DataSay, COR, PQA, and QPS.
  10. Commit to professionalism and RCMA.  Maintain professionalism by being on time, organized, and prepared for each coaching meeting.
  11. Adherence to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: If a college degree is earned outside of the U.S., it must be evaluated course by course to be the equivalent of a U.S. degree by: an approved credential evaluation agency approved by the Bureau of Educators Certification such as Josef Silny & Associates or World Education Services or an accredited college/university.

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or, Child Development, with 3 months experience (480 hours) in teaching children birth through 5.

OR

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science or advanced degree and coursework equivalent* to early childhood education, with 2 years of experience in child care or early education of children birth through 5. Coursework equivalent * to a major relating to early childhood education are degrees in elementary education or exceptional student education.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Driving record acceptable to RCMA’s insurance carrier.
  • Experience with training
  • Experience with economically culturally and linguistically diverse in a community setting.
  • CLASS Observer Certifications:  Pre-K. (Infant and Toddler CLASS Observer will be required within one year)
  • High Scope TOT Certification / PQA Reliable /COR Reliable
