Plant Operator and Area Maintenance – Charter Academy

MISSION:

RCMA Immokalee Community Academy, a Title I Charter School in Collier County, is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Plant Operator and Area Maintenance.

Our successful K-8 Charter School is located in Immokalee, Florida, in Collier County. Our school serves approximately 340 children, with two homerooms per grade level from K-8; our small size allows us to serve our students and their families on a personal level.

Redlands Christian Migrant Association, RCMA, is a non-profit corporation serving Florida agriculture workers and their children for more than fifty years. RCMA is recognized as a “Schools of Hope operator” by the State Board of Education, a prestigious designation for non-profit, charter school operators.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Ensure the safe and well-being of all students and effective operation of all school systems including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, mechanical and safety systems, furniture, and equipment within academy grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following however, other duties may be assigned:

  1. Ensures all areas of the facility, to include classrooms, desks and other furniture, office areas, hallways, and other circulation areas, outdoor sidewalks and courtyards, outdoor play areas, windows, lights, ceiling tiles, floors, mechanical areas to include air conditioning grills, and auxiliary facilities (cafeteria, area offices, labs, etc.) are scheduled for cleaning and are kept clean.
  2. Performs limited maintenance of furniture and equipment. Replaces light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and other items. Checks and changes air conditioning filters as needed. Identifies the need for maintenance work orders and advises the Charter Academy Principal accordingly.
  3. Completes and supervises all major facilities’ work as needed from start to end.
  4. Communicates all concerns and hazards to the immediate supervisor.
  5. Administers a key control system for the academy facilities.
  6. The maintenance including window washing, all the heavy maintenance power washing, ground-up loan, and landscaping.
  7. Coordinates fire drills and other emergency preparedness drills and completes and assures that the required documentation records are kept at the school.
  8. Must complete the Plant Operator and Maintenance Checklist as scheduled. Must perform tasks as outlined on the checklist. Must submit to Principal on a monthly basis for review.
  9. Forecast and communicates with supervisor on any upcoming repairs and/or maintenance to promote a safe environment for faculty, students, and visitors.
  10. Be available after school hours for emergencies and unusual situations. Respond and address any emergencies and unusual incidents during and after school hours.
  11. Set up the bids.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum High School Diploma. Experience in school transportation services if needed. 3-5 years of experience in area maintenance, facilities, or related field is required. Knowledge of and general ability in preventative maintenance. Experience in supervision in a culturally diverse setting.

OTHER:

Must have a current Florida Driver’s License and have a driving record acceptable to vehicle insurance carrier.  Must be at least 21 years old. Working at least one Saturday a month is expected.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A member of the community being served.
  • Possess a current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Red Cross Standard First Aid.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
