Accounting Manager

PURPOSE: Responsible for quality review of the financial reporting function at RCMA. Also, the Accounting Manager will have charge over calculating periodic drawdowns on Headstart, School Readiness, VPK, and any other Federal and State Grants. To meet RCMA performance standards this individual must familiarize themself with the grant structures and regulations as well as deadlines to submit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following; however, other duties may be assigned.

  1. Manages 2 Staff Accountants and 2 Fiscal Specialists.
  2. Manages month-end close process including approval of all account reconciliations and deliverables ensuring strict adherence to deadlines.
  3. Manages drawdown process including calculating and reconciling drawdown and ensuring staff has provided all backup prior to doing so.
  4. Prepares final financial reports each month for review by the Controller.
  5. Reviews and approves all reimbursement requests and entries made by Fiscal Specialists.
  6. Assists Controller with all monitoring and auditor requests.
  7. Verifies that all account allocations are appropriately applied.
  8. Provides support to staff in communicating with center personnel.
  9. Assists Controller with AD-HOC requests.
  10. Oversees and manages RCMA General Ledger System.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Master’s degree or CPA preferred, but not required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: At least 7-10 years of work experience in all aspects of accounting including account reconciliation, budgeting, presentation of information, analysis, projections, and internal controls. Nonprofit or government accounting experience preferred. At least 5 years of demonstrated success as a manager or supervisor in accounting, finance, or a similar role and excellent technical skills. Experience working with or for external auditors is required. At least 2 years of experience working in finance for a complex nonprofit organization, government agency, or similar environment is required.

COMPLIANCE: Works independently under the general supervision of the Associate Executive Director for Business & Finance and the guidance of applicable federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with all funding source requirements and DCF requirements. Develop systems to ensure positive outcomes from reviews/monitoring to support high-quality services.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age or older. Able to work flexible hours, occasional evenings, and varying daytime shifts during weekdays. Some weekend work is required, especially at year-end and during reporting deadlines. Must have or be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to RCMA’s insurance carrier. Ability to work well with volunteers and the community.
